Hailey + Murphy

When Hailee, Murphy and I were initially planning their engagement session, Hailee threw out the idea of doing the shoot on a sailboat. That's all she had to say - I absolutely love when couples step outside the box when it comes to their vision for their engagement shoot. The trick to turning any creative idea into a success is to really dive in and do something that's special to you; fully immersing yourselves in the experience. While I love the paparazzi style shoots, or shoots in restaurants or bars, the emotive images that inspire people to do that really hinges on letting go of any feelings of self consciousness and really interacting in front of the camera. But - that can be quite a challenge for couples who are a bit more introverted or nervous about being in front of the camera, as public spaces come with an accessory - the public. So a shoot like this is the perfect way to provide a more private experience, no audience around (other than me, the captain and a couple crew) in a more dynamic, unique setting than your average park. And for what it's worth - there is absolutely nothing wrong with shooting in a park amongst some beautiful foliage and blooms - it's always in style. The most important thing to remember when choosing your location is to think of a spot or an activity you'll feel natural and comfortable.

The day of our shoot was beyond perfect. A stunning sunset, a glass of champagne, cruising along the city skyline... Can't be beat.

I'm looking forward to their big day this summer at The Commodore - a fantastic venue on Nagawicka. And obviously - we will certainly be spending some time shooting portraits on the dock on the property.
