Alex + Aidan

Alex + Aidan.

I first met with Alex and Aidan last spring at Colectivo in Bayview. I immediately felt comfortable with them, as if I’d known them forever. We not only talked about the wedding day, we talked about all of our travels and adventures. Alex and Aidan have both adventured around a bit (we all spent time in Seoul around the same time last year - me spending the night in the city during a layover coming back from Bali, Alex spending time in the city playing hockey and COMPETING IN THE OLYMPICS AND WINNING GOLD FOR TEAM USA!!! One of these experiences was not like the other…!) so it was so fun to swap travel stories. The couple is super down to earth, beyond kind, and sweet as can be.

We reunited for their engagement session last September. We met in Madison on the most perfect sunshine-y day; we went to the Capitol building, the Terrace and ended in the Kohl Center and the Labahn Arena. Alex and Aidan took me ON THE ICE in both facilities. Talk about surreal - I’ve never been down on that level before, and standing on the ice looking up at the stadium truly was breathtaking. It goes without saying that hockey is a big part of this couples story - both Alex and Aidan played for the Badgers during their time at UW Madison, so it was important to them to incorporate it into their shoot. We also went into the locker room in the Kohl Center, which was SO COOL. Seeing the trophies and plaques, it really made me stop and think about how hard these guys and girls work and the dedication it takes to get to the point they did. I was so bummed when our session ended, as I knew it would be a while until I saw them again.

Alex and Aidan were married on June 29, 2019 at Villa Terrace Decorative Arts Museum. The weather provided a contrast to their hockey roots - the temperature neared 90 and the sun shone brilliantly. A bit different than the temperature inside the Kohl Center! Blue skies, green grass, flowers in bloom - their wedding day was colorful and bright. The couple decided to do a first look, which was one of my favorite parts of the day. It calmed their nerves and Aidan’s reaction had us all teary eyed. Alex also did a reveal with her father - cue more happy tears.

The ceremony took place in the yard at Villa Terrace, and the couple was married by Tony Granato, the head coach of the Wisconsin Badger’s Men’s Ice Hockey Team. His excitement to marry the couple radiated through the crowd, we all absorbed some of his energy as we waited for the ceremony to begin. The couples vow’s were so special, and apparently the pollen count on June 29 was quite high - Aidan’s allergies hit him just as he started to recite his ;)

From Villa Terrace, we headed over to The Grain Exchange to kick off the reception. To keep it short and sweet, it was just as much fun as the first portion of the day was. Heartfelt speeches, plenty of laughter and joy, a stunningly decorated room and a jam packed dance floor.

I wish Alex and Aidan nothing but the best in their journey together. They hopped on a plane just hours after their wedding, to honeymoon in New Zealand (how awesome!). Their adventure with each other continues in New York City as Aidan has accepted a job there! These are the moments I appreciate social media, as I’m excited to follow along as they skate through life together as husband and wife.

I hope you enjoy these photos from their sunny, colorful, joy-filled wedding day!

Cheers!

Stephanie
