Erika + Brian
Erika + Brian (un)officially kicked off my 2019 wedding season. I had a relaxed start and assisted on a few weddings previous to theirs, but 6/1/2019 was the date that my season really got rolling. And I can’t imagine a better start to the summer!
Erika and Brian met in undergrad, while attending school at Ave Maria University in Naples, FL. They shared mutual friends for a few years, but didn’t really get to know each other until they shared a summer class together. While getting to know each other more, Brian asked Erika to come over for a steak dinner, but she never showed up because she thought he was joking! (Oops!!) Eventually, Erika took him up on his offer and they had dinner together. And really, the rest is history! They both graduated, and did the long distance thing for four (yes, 4!) years while Erika went to graduate school and Brian worked in his hometown. Eventually, they both moved to the same area and 8 years later, are tying the knot. Fittingly, Erika told me she just opened a wedding gift given to her from one of her bridesmaids that contained a quote in a frame that states: “God has perfect timing: Never early, never late. It takes a little patience and a whole lot of faith...but it’s worth the wait.” The perfect words to describe Erika + Brian’s relationship.
The couple married on June 1, 2019 at Holy Hill Basilica in Hubertus, WI. The ceremony was performed by Erika’s father - how special is that?! After their ceremony, we used the canopy of the trees lining the streets leading up to Holy Hill for their portraits, and then stopped in a field (literally, a field - when in Wisconsin, right?) to snap a few photos with the church in the distance.
Their reception was held at Folk Song Farm, which is situated on a large property with plenty of green space for guests to spread out and mingle. They even had a cigar bar set up for their guests to enjoy! Erika, Brian and I went out into the field behind the barn and took a few minutes to snap some more photos of just the two of them before the reception began. I love the whimsical dandelion puffs at their feet in those images.
Their reception was just as much fun as the first part of their day had been. The speeches were so heartfelt, and the dance floor was packed the second the first song started to play. I imagine the whole group danced their hearts out well into the night.
Erika and Brian packed up and left for their honeymoon the following Monday - they jetted off to Italy!
I wish these two nothing but the best on their journey together. If their wedding day is a preview into the type of marriage they will have, they’re destined for a great adventure!
